Our client, a dynamic, industry-leading collections agency with a people-first approach, seeks to hire a Legal Counsel to join their growing team.  This attorney will be a vital member of the legal team and will collaborate with cross-functional departments, offering legal insights and strategic guidance.  In this role you will manage a variety of litigation matters related to default accounts and financial recovery disputes.  In addition, the person in this role will have the opportunity to work on other legal matters such as regulatory compliance and contract management.

Responsibilities Include:

Litigation Management:

  • Overseeing litigation matters, focusing on Florida cases related to default accounts and financial recovery disputes.
  • Providing courtroom representation and managing case strategy from start to resolution.

Legal Strategy & Account Recovery Support:

  • Collaborating with Account Recovery teams to devise and implement legal strategies for managing default accounts.
  • Guiding the team through legal actions, including claim filings, litigation initiation, and risk assessments.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Mitigation:

  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing collections and financial services.
  • Providing expert legal counsel on regulatory changes, industry best practices, and potential risks affecting the business.

Contract Review and Negotiation:

  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and approving a wide range of legal contracts, including vendor agreements, client contracts, and other business-critical documents.
  • Ensuring contracts align with business goals while mitigating potential risks.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the executive leadership and other departments to provide legal perspectives on strategic initiatives, business transactions, and compliance matters.
  • Support the company’s growth by ensuring legal frameworks are in place for new ventures and partnerships.
  • Potential to expand practice to provide advice and counsel on other matters that may arise including fintech laws and regulations, real estate transactions, and general litigation.

Key Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the state of Florida. Holding additional state licenses to practice law is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal practice, with experience in litigation and contract law.
  • Familiarity with debt recovery practices and collections law is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to thrive independently and as part of a dynamic, collaborative team.
