Intellectual Property Counsel – Pennsylvania

Our client, a leading global specialty chemicals company, has exclusively retained Solutus Legal Search to assist its executives in hiring an Intellectual Property Counsel.  The role reports directly to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and is based in the Company’s US headquarters just outside of Philadelphia, PA. The Company will cover the cost of relocation for their successful candidate who currently resides outside of the area. This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a world-class organization and legal department.

 

This attorney will manage matters involving IP related transactions patent, trade secret, trademark and litigation matters.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and negotiating IP-related agreements, including joint development and confidential disclosure agreements, as well as supporting M&A activities.
  • Assisting with the Company’s global portfolio of patents, trademarks and trade secrets, including analyzing the portfolio for valuable assets and ensuring appropriate IP protection for the Company’s products, innovations and brands.
  • Overseeing outside counsel in the filing and prosecution of patent applications in the US and around the world.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams including R&D to identify and define inventions for patent and other IP protection.
  • Assisting on patent and IP-related litigation matters worldwide.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong academic credentials and a Juris Doctor from a well-respected US law school.
  • A license to practice in at least one state, and registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is preferred.
  • 5-8 years of relevant IP, patent, and related litigation and/or transaction experience.
  • Training at a top law firm and/or prior in-house experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in the chemical industry and/or academic study in chemistry and related disciplines will be an advantage but is not required.
